Sublime defined in Frankenstein is the concept that nature can be powerful, dangerous and healing all at the same time. When Victor starts to get freaked out or sick, he visits nature. Victor is aware of the beauty of nature, and it refreshes him. For example, when Victor is sick, he finds healing in nature therefore he hikes to find it.
Ice represents the feeling of being trapped in the book. In the beginning, Robert Walton and his crew are trapped in ice. They can not move, and it does not look like they will any time soon, so they listen to Victor Frankenstein's story of how he got in the awful state he was in. The trapping that occurs in Victor's life is the monster. Mo stalks and hurts Victor multiple times, to the point where he can not escape. He never escapes the monster, even to the point of death, just as the ship is trapped in ice. Both the ship and Victor have good intentions, but end up tapped along the way. The only difference is the ship no longer is trapped in ice at the end, while Victor dies with the monster still lurking.
Sublime nature is present in my life. Nature is where I go to calm down, regenerate, and think. It is a place of beauty, peace, and quiet. God shows himself through nature, and it is awe-inspiring. My favorite place to go is my camp. It is in the hill country of Texas, and there is no cell service anywhere near. No contact with the outside world for a month, I get a chance to connect with other girls who love the Lord through being outside 16 hours of the day. The way the sun sets over the hills is one I can not describe. The only way I can describe it is there is no way there is not a God after seeing that. Sublime nature helps me connect with my creator, and therefore I strongly believe in it.
